In 1927, Dr. Henry Field led The Captain Marshall Field Archeological Expedition to Western Europe and Egypt to gather prehistoric artifacts and collect data for the preparation of the proposed Hall of Prehistoric Man; Sculpltor Frederick Blaschke was deemed best able to visualize these early people and recreate models of them in their natural setting.
The Expedition is described in further detail in the Annual report of the Director to the Board of Trustees for the year 1927.
